STEAM Learning at PCIS

At Phenix City Intermediate School, we believe that STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education is essential for preparing students for the future. Our STEAM programs offer a diverse array of courses that provide hands-on, experiential learning in a variety of fields. From exploring technology and engineering to fostering creativity through fine arts and band, we empower students to develop the critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative skills needed for success in today’s world.

STEM Courses

PCIS offers innovative STEM courses for both 6th and 7th-grade students, tailored to meet their interests and academic goals.

  • 6th Grade STEAM includes rotations through various disciplines, such as Technology Education, Engineering, Computer Science, and Visual Arts. Students explore basic coding, create digital media projects, and learn the engineering design process through hands-on activities.

  • 7th Grade STEAM expands student options, allowing them to choose year-long pathways in areas like Vex Robotics, Computer Science Discoveries, and Digital Media. These courses engage students in programming, robotics challenges, digital content creation, and more, providing a deeper understanding of STEM fields.

Fine Arts

We also integrate the Arts into our STEAM approach, giving students opportunities to explore their creative potential.

  • Visual Arts classes allow students to develop their artistic skills through traditional and digital media. Students learn to appreciate art history while creating their own works, making connections between historical relevance and contemporary issues.

Band Program

Music is an integral part of the student experience at PCIS. Our 6th and 7th Grade Band programs are designed to develop students' musical talents, whether they are beginners or continuing from previous instruction. Students learn to read music, play instruments, and perform in both small and large ensembles throughout the school year.
